Isaiah 34:5-15

5 For ^aMy sword is satiated in heaven,
Behold it shall descend for judgment upon ^bEdom
And upon the people whom I have ^cdevoted to destruction.
6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood,
It is ^{▼▼ Lit made fat}sated with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats,
With the fat of the kidneys of rams.
For the Lord has a sacrifice in ^eBozrah
And a great slaughter in the land of ^fEdom.
7 ^gWild oxen will also ^{▼▼ Lit go down}fall with them
And ⁱyoung bulls with strong ones;
Thus their land will be ^jsoaked with blood,
And their dust ^{▼▼ Lit made fat}become greasy with fat.
8 For the Lord has a day of ^lvengeance,
A year of recompense for the ^{▼▼ Or controversy}cause of Zion.
9 ^{▼▼ I.e. Edom’s}Its streams will be turned into pitch,
And its loose earth into ^obrimstone,
And its land will become burning pitch.
10 It will ^pnot be quenched night or day;
Its ^qsmoke will go up forever.
From ^rgeneration to generation it will be desolate;
^sNone will pass through it forever and ever.
11 But ^{▼▼ Or owl or jackdaw
,} ^upelican and hedgehog will possess it,
And ^{▼▼ Or great horned owl}owl and raven will dwell in it;
And He will stretch over it the ^wline of ^{▼▼ Or formlessness}desolation
And the ^{▼▼ Lit stones of void}plumb line of emptiness.
12 Its nobles— there is ^zno one there
Whom they may proclaim king—
And all its princes will be ^aanothing.
13 Thorns will come up in its ^abfortified towers,
Nettles and thistles in its fortified cities;
It will also be a haunt of ^acjackals
And an abode of ostriches.
14 The desert ^adcreatures will meet with the ^{▼▼ Or howling creatures}wolves,
The ^{▼▼ Or demon
,} ^aghairy goat also will cry to its kind;
Yes, the ^{▼▼ Heb Lilith}night monster will settle there
And will find herself a resting place.
15 The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there,
And it will hatch and gather them under its ^{▼▼ Lit shade}protection.
Yes, ^ajthe ^{▼▼ Or kites}hawks will be gathered there,
Every one with its kind.
